Electrofishing Field Trip

We will travel up to Brooklyn, Indiana to sample fish from White Lick Creek.  Jim Stahl, a fisheries biologist from IDEM, will meet us there with all the necessary equipment.  After an introductory discussion on electrofishing and biotic surveys in general, the students will have the opportunity to assist with the electrofishing by using nets to collect stunned fish.  We place all fish into a large cooler containing creek water so the fish can revive.

Once we return to shore, Jim will identify each species of fish collected and will discuss that species' role in the aquatic community.
